Distribution: Western North America. Warm, dry Ponderosa pine forests. Holotype locality: Estes Park, Larimer Co., CO. Seasonality and Size: Wingspan: male ~ 44-55; female ~ >60. Larva and Host Plants: Ponderosa pine. Description/ Field Marks: Large size. Dark gray-black, or gray-brown (Mexico only) forewing Contrasting white hindwing Similar Species: See also 9178 - P. virginarius Pinned specimens of related species.
