Description/
Field Marks:
"Orthosia immaculata, nov. sp.
 Expanse 37 mm. Length of body 17 mm.
 Eyes apparently naked, with strong lashes. Antenne of the male pubescent.
 Head and thorax reddish-brown, the latter smooth and without dorsal tufts. Abdomen short and untufted. Tibiae unarmed.
 Anterior wings uniform reddish-brown, having the lines obsolete; the ordinary spots small, black, and obscure; fringe red, preceded by a suffused black terminal band.
 Posterior wings brownish-fuscous, the veins red; fringe also red, tipped with white.
 Beneath both wings are uniform brownish-fuscous, with the veins and costae reddish.
 Hab. South Nevada (Crotch).

 The head of the single specimen examined is mouldy, but the eyes appear to be naked." (Morrison 1875)

      Type locality: South Nevada.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Anathix immaculata (Morrison, 1875) is listed as "ident. uncert." by Schmidt (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) following Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40:165. The type specimen has apparently been lost and "the expanse is given in the original description as 37 mm, much larger than any Anathix known".
