Larva and Host Plants: |
Moria reports: I found that ~1/3 of larvae had a brown 5th instar morph, while others went right through to pupation green. In my notes, I wrote: "Larvae green with maroon thoracic legs and prolegs. Spiracles yellowish. Thick white dorsal and subdorsal stripes. Wavy sublateral white stripe with yellow hues. Some individuals molt into a brown phenotype for the 5th instar, retaining pattern but exchanging greens for brown and burnt orange." Defensive posture shown for a 4th instar. Also, in middle instars the larvae press themselves against the Adenostoma stem (see photo). In late instars, they are pretty chunky and don't have any remarkable postures or defensive behaviors that I could elicit. Collected exclusively from Adenostoma fasciculatum. I would guess that it is a specialist upon Adenostoma. |
