Geometridae
91a0042 – 7092   Protoproutia rusticaria McDunnough, 1939

[T] © Hugh McGuinness
Distribution: TX, AZ - McDunnough (1939).
Holotype: Texas.
Description/
Field Marks:
"Very similar to laredoata Cass. but with the basal two-thirds of both wings much paler and with, in consequence, better defined maculation... Expanse 16 mm." (McDunnough 1939)

All identifications are tentative. There are two BIN groups for the genus at BOLD: BOLD:ABW8292 with specimens matching the original description of laredoata and BOLD:ABA1188 with specimens matching the original description of rusticaria. The true identity of each is unclear. It is also unclear if size or genitalia is useful.
Similar Species:
  • Protoproutia laredoatatypically is larger, WS: ~20mm vs. ~16mm, and has basal two-thirds of hind wings darker with lines less well defined.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Protoproutia rusticaria McDunnough, 1939
