Distribution Data for
Large Map & Chart Report Errors About Maps
Distribution: USA: possibly AR, OK, TX. (USNM, BOLD); possibly FL (see notes).
Larva and
Host Plants:
Sida rhombifolia (Malvaceae)
Similar Species:
  • [Ornixolinae - No Genus] quinquistrigella (Chambers, 1875)
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • albomarginatum (Walsingham, 1897) (Coriscium) mispl.; TL: "West Indies [Virgin Islands] - St. Thomas."
  • Taxonomic Notes: "Acrocercops" albomarginatum (Walsingham, 1897), prov. pl. (misplaced), is recognized within the North American fauna from Arkansas (Eiseman & Davis in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) based on USNM specimens from AR identified by Don Davis. Davis also identified USNM specimens from OK with DNA barcodes which place them in BIN group BOLD:ABX0021. However, there is evidence that all these specimen might have been misidentified and possibly refer to quinquistrigella (Chambers, 1875) (type locality: TX). Similar specimens from FL seem to match the holotype and original description of albomarginatum slightly better, and DNA barcode places them in BOLD:ACG1702, a BIN that is well separated from BOLD:ABX0021. See Eiseman (2025) (BugTracks Blog) for more details. Pending further study, specimens from FL are tentatively treated here as albomarginatum.
