Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Ericaceae Poaceae Pinaceae Polygonaceae.  Host genera: Abies Agrostis Alopecurus Dactylis Festuca Poa Pseudotsuga Rumex Vaccinium.  Notes: polyphagous on herbs (Forbes 1923); larvae feed on stems, runners & roots (Averill & Sylvia 1998).  (Shropshire & Douglas 2025) Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. Synonymy: topiarius (Zeller, 1866) (Crambus) - MONA 1983: 5391 ssp. a. topiarius (Zeller, 1866) (Crambus) ssp. b. vachellellus (Kearfott, 1903) (Crambus)  hortuellus of authors; (not Hübner, 1796) (Crambus) misappl.
