Distribution: Primarily east of the Rockies and west of the Mississippi; ND and MN south to TX with records from MI and IL. Similar Species: Acronicta falcula (Grote, 1877) is best separated by DNA or genitalia. Acronicta mansueta (Smith, 1897) is best separated by DNA or genitalia. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: parallela (Grote, 1879) (Apatela) - MONA 1983: 9215; TL: Colorado. Taxonomic Notes: Acronicta parallela (Grote, 1879), previously synonymized with Acronicta falcula (Grote, 1877) in Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40: 136, is elevated back to full species status, Lafontaine & Schmidt (2011), Zookeys, 149: 153.
