Similar Species: 3300 Epinotia subplicana tends to have a gray color, not cinnamon as in subplicana, but the two have similar genitalia. DNA barcode suggests that subplicana and improvisana may represent a complex which may include undescribed species. Based on DNA, color does not appear to separate taxa in this "complex."
