Digital Guide to Moth Identification

Tortricidae
51a1212 – 3300   Epinotia subplicana (Walsingham, 1879)

© Jim Moore
Genitalia: Heinrich (1923), Bull. U.S. Nat. Mus. 123: 208: pl. 52, fig. 355.
Similar Species:
  • 3301 Epinotia improvisana tends to be of a cinnamon hue, not gray as in subplicana, but the two have similar genitalia. DNA barcode suggests that subplicana and improvisana may represent a complex which may include undescribed species. Based on DNA, color does not appear to separate taxa in this "complex."
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Paedisca subplicana Walsingham, 1879
Paedisca basipunctana Walsingham, 1879
