Similar Species:
  • Phiaris bipunctana (Fabricius, 1794) is separated by genitalia and apparently DNA barcode.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • glaciana (Möschler, 1860) (Sericoris) - MONA 1983: 2847; TL: Canada: Labrador.
  • castorana (McDunnough, 1922) (Argyroploce); Holotype: Nordegg, AB.
Note: Pending further review, we retain castorana as a synonym of glaciana. Formerly a synonym of glaciana (Möschler, 1860), Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) included castorana (McDunnough, 1922) as a synonym of bipunctana following Nedoshivina (2016). "Examination of the castorana type's genitalia does not support Nedoshivina's (2016) treatment" (Michael Sabourin in litt., 15March2025).
  • dealbana (Walker, 1863) (Penthina); TL: Redman, NS.
  • fuscalbana (Zeller, 1876) (Sericoris); TL: Ohio.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Phiaris glaciana (Möschler, 1860), n. comb., was formerly placed in Olethreutes (Gilligan et al. 2020).
