[T] - TX - (cc) Bianca Banda
Distribution: USA: TX?, FL?
Type locality (nervata): "Brézil (Rio)".
Type locality (tractata): "North America".
Similar Species:
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Macaria nervata Guenée, [1858]• Macaria tractata Walker, 1861• Macaria fractaria Walker, 1861
Taxonomic Notes: Macaria nervata Guenée, [1858] (described from Brazil) and it's synonym M. tractata Walker, 1861 (described from "North America") were listed by Ferguson (in Hodges et al. 1983:ix) (Checklist) as extralimital north of Mexico. Subsequently, these names were not included in either Ferguson (2008) MONA or Schmidt & McGuinness (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). It is unclear who made the synonymy or on what grounds it was made, but Dyar (1902) seemed to attribute it to Packard. He also gave Florida as the locality. This treatment was apparently followed in checklists by Smith (1903:74), McDunnough (1938), etc. until the 1983 Checklist. A recent photo from Texas similar to BOLD specimens of "nervata" from Central America was submitted to iNaturalist and is included here.
