Crambidae
80a1398 – 5327   Prionapteryx indentella (Kearfott, 1908)

Hal Livings
Distribution: Kansas to Texas
Type locality: Amarillo, TX
Similar Species:
  • 5326 Surattha santella Kearfott, 1908 is found in Arizona. Males have simple antennae, not bipectinated.
  • Two populations in Texas separated by DNA barcode appear to support the possibility of an undescribed species.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Surattha indentella Kearfott, 1908
Taxonomic Notes: Prionapteryx indentella (Kearfott, 1908), n. comb., was formerly in the genus Surattha (Hayden & Scholtens in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). Previously, this species was transferred to Prionapteryx by Bleszynski (1967) as a result of synonymy of the two genera. This synonymy was overturned by Bassi & Mey in Mey (2011), Esperiana Memoir 6: 234, leaving the generic status of santella uncertain.
