Distribution: Florida and parts of the Caribbean, Schmidt & Lafontaine (per. comm., 8/1/2017).
Similar Species:

Taxonomic Notes: Zale viridans of authors, not (Guenée, 1852), an undescribed species currently known only from FL and parts of the Caribbean, includes as synonyms Z. strigimacula of authors, not (Guenée, 1852) from Florida in Lafontaine & Schmidt (2015), ZooKeys, 527: 137, and Z. obsita of authors, not (Guenée, 1852) from Florida in Schmidt, Lafontaine & Troubridge (2018), ZooKeys, 788: 246.

This species is in the Zale strigimacula species complex near Zale erilda Schaus, 1940 and is represented at BOLD under the name Zale n. sp. 5. in BOLD:ACD9041, a BIN group which includes examples from Puerto Rico identified as Z. erilda, Schmidt & Lafontaine (per. comm., 8/1/2017). True Z. viridans is extralimital to North America north of Mexico and was removed from the list in Lafontaine & Schmidt 2015.
