Description/
Field Marks:
Wingspan: ♂ = 38 mm (Grote & Robinson 1868); averages ~45 mm (J. Troubridge, pers. comm. 10/02/2022).
Similar Species:
  • Litoprosopus confligens (Walker, [1858]) is typically larger.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • futilis (Grote & Robinson, 1868) (Dyops) - MONA 1983: 8556
      Type locality: Florida.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Litoprosopus futilis (Grote & Robinson, 1868), formerly in the family Erebidae, is placed in the subfamily Dyopsinae within the family Noctuidae, revised status in Zahiri et al. (2013), (Lafontaine & Schmidt 2015).
