Distribution: NC south to MS and FL. MPG mapping is inaccurate especially from FL and west of MS with most referring to H. floccalis. Description/ Field Marks: FW length 12–14 mm. Similar Species: 8467.1 Hemeroplanis floccalis is smaller and best separated by genitalia or DNA barcode. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: pyraloides Hübner, 1823 (Hemeroplanis) scopulaepes Stephens, 1829 (Hemeroplanis) scopulepes (Haworth, 1809) (Phytometra) - MONA 1983: 8467   Type locality: “England” (in error for the southeastern United States; Poole 1989). denticulata (Walker, 1866) (Apicia) geometralis (Grote, 1872) (Pleonectyptera) inops (Stephens, 1829) (Scopelopus) irrecta (Walker, 1865) (Poaphila) pyralis Hübner, 1818 (Hemeroplanis) scopelopes Seitz, 1946 (Hemeroplanis) missp.
