Distribution: New York to Missouri, southward to Florida and Louisiana.

April-June. Two Broods. 22-32mm.

Description/
Field Marks:
AM. line straight across most of wing from below costa (Forbes' Key). Subterminal line dark, edged outwardly with yellow. (Forbes and Covell)
Similar Species:
  • Zanclognatha jacchusalis has an obviously waved am. line and a straight, yellow subterminal line (which may have a few dark scales edging it).
  • Zanclognatha cruralis (Guenée, 1854) typically has a lighter ground color and a thinner pale st. line with darker, more contrasting shading on the proximal side. Dissection may be required for poorly marked individuals.
