Digital Guide to Moth Identification

9300127922Pheosia rimosa – Black-rimmed Prominent Moth – Packard, 1864

© John Davis
Taxonomic Notes: Pheosia portlandia [7923] is a synonym. It has previously been treated as a distinct species, replacing P. rimosa in Pacific coastal forests. DNA barcode haplotypes of Washington and British Columbia portlandia are entirely or nearly identical to typical rimosa from B.C. and Alberta, and there are no differences in genitalic structure. Intermediate phenotypes occur across a large geographical area from central British Columbia to central Washington.
