Distribution: "Eastern North America from Ontario, Canada south to South Carolina and west to Missouri and Texas" (Davis & De Prins 2011).
Larva and
Host Plants:
Robinia pseudoacacia, R. viscosa, R. hispida (Davis & De Prins, 2011).
Similar Species:
  • Macrosaccus morrisella (Fitch, 1859) forewing has a white basal streak and dorsal strigulae less oblique.
  • Macrosaccus uhlerella (Fitch, 1859) forewing basal strigulae are less oblique.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • robiniella (Clemens, 1859) (Lithocolletis) - MONA 1983: 0790
      Type locality: not given.
  • pseudacaciella (Fitch, 1859) (Argyromiges)
      Type locality: not given, possibly Salem, NY (Davis & De Prins 2011:52).
  • Taxonomic Notes: Macrosaccus robiniella (Clemens, 1859), n. comb., was formerly in the genus Phyllonorycter (Davis & De Prins 2011).
