Distribution: "Primarily southern portions of Louisiana around New Orleans and adjacent portions of Mississippi" (Pavulaan 2020).
Holotype: 4.2 mi. NE of Abita Springs, sec. 24.T6.SR12E, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Synonymy: Hemileuca maia orleans Pavulaan, 2020
Taxonomic Notes: Hemileuca orleans Pavulaan, 2020, n. stat. (St Laurent in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023: Appendix I), described as a subspecies of Hemileuca maia (Drury, 1773), is raised to full species status.
