| Taxonomic Notes: |
Neoselenia canidiaria (Strecker, 1899), n. comb. (Matson & Wagner 2025), was formerly in the genus Caripeta. This species is now recognized within the North American fauna based on a dissected female specimen from “Senator" [Senator Mine?], AZ, in the NMNH collection (Matson & Wagner 2025:34). This species (described from a female) closely resembles Neoselenia asteria (Druce, 1892) (described from male specimens from Jalapa, Mexico); males of the former and females of the latter are apparently unknown, and it may be the case that the two are conspecific in which case the latter would have priority (Tanner Matson, pers. comm., 2Feb2026). |
