| Taxonomic Notes: |
Crambus whitmerellus Klots, 1942, previous to its description, was recognized by Fernald (1896) as dumetellus Hübner, a name currently treated as a synonym of pratella (Linnaeus, 1758: 535), a European species not found in NA. Kearfott (1908) included dumetellus of Fernald as a synonym of trichusalis (Hulst 1886) which he believed to be widespread. Realizing that dumetellus of Kearfott referred to a new species, Klots described whitmerellus and included as synonyms both dumetellus of authors and trichusalis of authors. |
