© John Lee
Distribution: Type locality (straminoides): "New York, Buffalo".
Type locality (plummeriana): Plummers Island, MD.
Type locality (schwarziana): Plummers Island, MD.
Type locality (zaracana): Central New York and northern Illinois.
Similar Species:
  • Phalonidia lepidana (Clemens, 1860)
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Conchylis straminoides Grote, 1873
Taxonomic Notes: Phalonidia straminoides (Grote, 1873) [3852] (Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist)), formerly treated as a synonym of 3807 lepidana Clemens, 1860 in Brown (2005), is elevated to full species status in Metzler & Brown (2014). Michael Sabourin (pers. comm., 10/27/2020) suggests that the plummeriana, schwarziana and zaracana, treated as synonyms of lepidana in Metzler & Brown (2014), are instead conspecific with straminiodes. MPG follows this interpretation for identification purposes pending further investigation.
