Similar Species: White loosely attached scales on the forewing seem to be lost during early flights of the moth and are absent from older less fresh specimens. They are only found in the Arizonellus Series of Acrolophus. The moth in the photograph by Bob Beatson is a male, either A. arizonellus, A. klotsi, or one of two new species from Arizona. My guess is one of the two new species because of the darker coloration. Males cannot be determined positively without looking at the genitalia; females only by association with the male. ~ Peter Jump Pinned specimens of related species.
