| Similar Species: |
- 51a1213 Epinotia improvisana: tends to be of a cinnamon hue, not gray as in subplicana, but the two have similar genitalia. DNA barcode suggests that subplicana and improvisana may represent a complex which may include undescribed species. Based on DNA, color does not appear to separate taxa in this "complex.".
