Distribution: CA, TX and southeastern US south to South America. Description/ Field Marks: See TortAI species page at idtools.org Genitalia: See TortAI species page at idtools.org Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: plebejana Zeller, 1847 (Crocidosema) - MONA 1983: 3274 plebiana; Meyrick, 1881 (Crocidosema) emend. ptiladelpha Meyrick, 1917 (Crocidosema) Taxonomic Notes: Crocidosema plebejana Zeller, 1847 is treated as one or more cryptic species with "true" C. plebejana listed as extralimital (Palearctic) in Gilligan et al. (2020). Synonyms of C. plebejana, of which C. excitana Moschler, 1891 (TL: Puerto Rico) might have priority, await revision. Pending further taxonomic work, plebejana is retained as a valid NA species by Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023).
