Taxonomic Notes: |
Celypha cespitana (Hübner, [1817]) is treated as extralimital (Palearctic) based on DNA evidence in Gilligan et al. (2020), Insects, 11(9), 594: 1-59. BOLD data seems to support the possibility that the widespread North American species we currently know as C. cespitana may be a separate species. A future split could result in the elevation of Celypha instrutana (Clemens, 1865) currently a synonym of C. cespitana, to full species with C. cespitana largely confined to the Old World. |
