Taxonomic Notes: |
Phiaris siderana, formerly in the genus Olethreutes with current placement following Aarvik et al. (2017) and Gilligan et al. (2020), is treated as a member of Celypha by some authors. This Eurasian species includes as a synonym Sericoris chalybeana Walsingham, 1879 described from California, previously treated as a subspecies in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist). At BOLD there are no DNA barcoded specimens from North America identified as siderana or chalybeana. "There is no evidence that siderana is holarctic so chalybeana should at least be retained/considered as a subspecies", Michael Sabourin (pers. comm., 11/8/2022). |
