Description/
Field Marks:
Pristerognatha agilana typically has two pairs of yellowish antemedial costal striae (each pair sometimes fused) and a silver line extending outwardly from each pair, also sometimes fused but not narrowing as in O. auricapitana. A centrally located silver spot may occur between the antemedial and postmedial silver lines closer to the outer margin than that of O. auricapitana. Opposite the antemedial costal striae lie a pair of silver dorsal striae or elongated spots, often fused or poorly defined. Costal striae often with white scales at costal margin.
Similar Species:
  • 2830 Olethreutes auricapitana.
  • 2830.1 Olethreutes n. sp. nr. auricapitana.
  • 2832 Olethreutes albiciliana.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy: Endopiza agilana Clemens, 1860
Tortrix fuligana of authors not [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775
Taxonomic Notes: Pristerognatha agilana (Clemens, 1860) is raised from synonymy with Pristerognatha fuligana ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), a European species not found in North America, to full species status in Miller (1985), Proc. Entom. Soc. Wash., 87: 413.
