Alnus and Betula species. Past report for other hostplants are apparently to be unsupported.
Description/
Field Marks:
Color variation may be hostplant derived. See Heppner (2024).
Similar Species:

  • diana (Hübner, [1822]) (Tortrix) - MONA 1983: 2651
      Type locality: [Germany?].
  • betuliperda (Dyar, 1902) (Orchemia) - MONA 1983: 2652
      Note: This name was treated as a valid species by Rota (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) and as a synonym of ssp. luridana in Heppner (2024).
  • decorana (Zetterstedt, 1839) (Coccyx)
      Type locality: Dalecarlia, Finland.
  • luridana (Walker, 1863) (Amphisa)
      Type locality: "St[a]. Martin's Falls", Albany R., [Ontario], Canada.
      Note: This name was treated as synonym of diana by Rota in Schmidt (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023) and as a subspecies of diana, new stat. in Heppner (2024).
  • vicarialis (Zeller, 1876) (Simaethis)
      Type locality: "Maine or Mass." - syn. of C. d. luridana (Walker).
  • vicarilis (Dyar, 1900) (Simaethis) missp.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Choreutis diana (Hübner, [1822]) is a Holarctic species represented in North America by Choreutis diana luridana (Walker, 1863), new stat.(Heppner 2024).
