Caution: The identity of "true" subsimella is uncertain due to overlapping physical traits and genetic grouping. It is represented at BOLD by two specimens collected in San Diego Co., CA by Norris Bloomfield, which DNA barcode places in BIN BOLD:AAH5081, but the criteria for the identifications is not stated. This species may not be reliably separated using external characters from L. californica, Battaristis concinnusella, and B. nigratomella. DNA barcoding groups all four of these species, along with L. distincta, into a single cluster nested inside the genus Battaristis. |
