Taxonomic Notes: A form that has contrasting markings (Goff photo, Sitka, Alaska) is known from the panhandle of Alaska and adjacent British Columbia and was described by Barnes and Benjamin (1926) as Caradrina astricta elenae. Lafontaine, in his 1998 MONA fascile 27.3, p. 86-87, does not retain subspecies status for this geographical variation.
