Similar Species: Anarta crotchii and Anarta fusculenta are easily confused. Examination of genitalia is required. A. crotchii is not presently known in southern California south of Yosemite. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: • Mamestra fusculenta Smith, 1891 Taxonomic Notes: Anarta fusculenta (Smith, 1891), formerly placed in the genus Discestra, n. comb. and n. status in Mustelin (2006), Zootaxa, 1278: 1-47, was previously treated as a subspecies of 10233 Anarta crotchii.
