Similar Species:
  • Anarta crotchii and Anarta fusculenta are easily confused. Examination of genitalia is required. A. crotchii is not presently known in southern California south of Yosemite.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)

  • chunka (Smith, 1910) (Mamestra)
  • crotchi (Franclemont & Todd, 1983) (Discestra) emend.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Anarta crotchii (Grote, 1880), formerly placed in the genus Discestra, n. comb. in Mustelin (2006), Zootaxa, 1278: 1-47, includes as a synonym Anarta chunka [10235], Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40: 155. This species was misslepped as "crotchi" in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist).
