Distribution: Introduced from Asia, this species has spread throughout eastern US and Canada.
Seasonality
and Size:
Animal hair and feathers, usually live in bird nests, Zool. J. Linn. Soc. 63(1): 10.
Genitalia: See Zool. J. Linn. Soc. 63(1): fig. 3c-d.
Similar Species:
  • 0418 Monopis monachella lacks a dark stain within large white patch on costal margin of forewing.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • longella (Walker, 1863) (Tinea)
      Type locality: North Hindostan, India.
  • pavlovskii Zagulajev, 1955 (Monopis)
      Type locality: former USSR.
  • pseudagyrta Meyrick, 1919 (Monopis)
  • Taxonomic Notes: Monopis longella (Walker, 1863), previously treated as a synonym of 0418 Monopis monachella (Hübner, 1796) in Meyrick (1894) and Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist), is now recognized as a full species and includes as a new synonym 0418.1 Monopis pavlovskii Zagulajev, 1955 in Huang et al. (2011), Zool. J. Linn. Soc. 63(1): 6.
