Acleris nigrolinea (Robinson, 1869) formerly included as synonyms A. ferruginiguttana Fernald, 1882 and A. disputabilis Obraztsov, 1963 in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist) following Powell (1964). However, that treatment is superseded by Razowski (1966) which treats A. disputabilis as a valid species with A. n. var. ferruginiguttana McDunnough 1934 as a synonym and ferruginiguttana as nomen dubium, an unrecognized species.
