Similar Species: Anarta crotchii and Anarta fusculenta are easily confused. Examination of genitalia is required. A. crotchii is not presently known in southern California south of Yosemite. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: crotchii Grote 1880 (Mamestra) chunka Smith 1910 (Mamestra) crotchi Franclemont & Todd 1983 (Discestra) Taxonomic Notes: Anarta crotchii (Grote, 1880), formerly placed in the genus Discestra, n. comb. in Mustelin (2006), Zootaxa, 1278: 1-47, includes as a synonym Anarta chunka [10235], Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40: 155. This species was misslepped as "crotchi" in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist).
