  • Taxonomic Notes: Catocala faustina Strecker, 1873 includes as subspecies Catocala cleopatra Strecker, 1874 (Gall & Hawks 1990:8) and Catocala allusa Hulst, 1884 (Gall & Hawks 2010:44). Some authors informally treat allusa as a full species. Some speculate that cleopatra should be returned to full species with allusa as a subspecies. There is active study aimed at resolving the status of the names listed as faustina subspecies, Lawrence Gall (pers. comm., 12/5/2018).
