Description/
Field Marks:
Sexually dimorphic with females often nearly white and lightly marked, and males much darker.
Genitalia: See Klots (1970).
Similar Species:
  • Eoreuma multipunctellus (Kearfott, 1908) male tends to be smaller; best separated by genitalia.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • puritellus (Kearfott, 1908) (Chilo) - MONA 1983: 5505
      Type locality: Baboquivaria [sic] Mts, Pima Co., AZ.
  • dinephelalis (Dyar, 1917) (Platytes)
      Type locality: Babaquivera [sic] Mts., Pima Co., AZ.
  • Taxonomic Notes: Xubida puritellus (Kearfott, 1908) includes as a synonym dinephelalis (Dyar, 1917) in Barnes & Benjamin (1918) who noted puritellus was described from 2 females, not a female and a male as originally stated.
