Description/ Field Marks: Flies in summer. Forewing color is variable ranging from all orange to all black; a single hyaline area at the base of the hindwing. (Engelhardt 1946) Similar Species: Alcathoe autumnalis Engelhardt, 1946 flies in the fall; "three hyaline areas at the base of the hindwing. (Engelhardt 1946). Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: pepsioides Engelhardt, 1925 (Alcathoe) - MONA 1983: 2624 atra Engelhardt, 1925 (Alcathoe) ferrugata Engelhardt, 1946 (Alcathoe)
