Genitalia: Heinrich (1923), Bull. U.S. Nat. Mus. 123: 208: pl. 52, fig. 355. Similar Species: 3301 Epinotia improvisana tends to be of a cinnamon hue, not gray as in subplicana, but the two have similar genitalia. DNA barcode suggests that subplicana and improvisana may represent a complex which may include undescribed species. Based on DNA, color does not appear to separate taxa in this "complex." Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: subplicana (Walsingham, 1879) (Paedisca) - MONA 1983: 3300 basipunctana (Walsingham, 1879) (Paedisca)
