Similar Species: Hystrichophora asphodelana and H. stygiana form a complex with apparently no clear delineation. Further study is needed. Pinned specimens of related species. Synonymy: stygiana (Dyar, 1903) (Thiodia) - MONA 1983: 3391 ssp. a. stygiana (Dyar, 1903) (Thiodia) - MONA 1983: 3391   Type locality: USA, "Arizona, Williams; Colorado, Golden". ssp. b. californiae Heinrich, 1923 (Hystrichophora)   Type locality: Holotype: USA, "California, Siskiyou Co.".
