(cc) Jonathan Gagnon
Description/
Field Marks:
On the wing in late Summer and Fall.
Genitalia: See McDunnough (1934: 327 (♂ gen.), fig. 1; 331 fig. 1.(♀ gen.)).
Similar Species:
  • Acleris flavivittana (Clemens, 1864) flies Spring-Fall (vs. late Summer-Fall for inana of authors) and is best separated by genitalia.
  • Acleris inana (Robinson, 1869) is treated as the same species as flavivittana pending revision of both species.
  • Acleris robinsoniana (Forbes, 1923) flies in Spring and is best separated by genitalia.
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • inana of authors; (not Robinson, 1869)
  • Taxonomic Notes: Acleris inana of authors; (not Robinson, 1869) is an undescribed, late summer/fall species which McDunnough (1934) erroneously attributed to "true" inana (M. Sabouring, in litt., 2024). As explained by Clarke (1987:175), McDunnough did not refer to the lectotype of inana designated by Klots (1942:414), and the genitalia he illustrated was not of any described species known to him.
