Field Marks:
As of 11/21/2021, DNA barcodes places all BOLD specimens in BIN BOLD:AAF8460 which contains male and female specimens reared and dissected by J.-F. Landry.
Similar Species:
  • Caloptilia populetorum is "separated externally by the almost unicolorous pale tarsal segments in the fore- and mid-leg (dark and more clearly ringed in suberinella)." - Landry et al. (2013:18)

Synonymy: Gracilaria suberinella Tengström, 1848
Gracilaria proteella Frey, 1884
Taxonomic Notes: Caloptilia suberinella (Tengström, 1848) is now recognized within the North American fauna north of Mexico, Zootaxa, 3749(1): 17.
