Similar Species: Photedes defecta typically has narrower wings, less heavily marked terminal line and darker hindwings. Pinned specimens of related species. Synonymy: enervata (Guenée, 1852) (Nonagria) mispl. - MONA 1983: 9441 fodiens (Guenée, 1852) (Nonagria) orphnina (Dyar, 1912) (Arenostola) - MONA 1983: [9442] Taxonomic Notes: "Photedes" enervata (Guenée, 1852), provisional placement, formerly placed in the genera Chortodes and Hypocoena, includes as a synonym 9442 Photedes orphnina (Dyar, 1912) in Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40: 150.
