Distribution: AZ, TX. Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: extrema of authors; (not Walker, 1855) (Ecpantheria) MISAPPL. - MONA 1983: 8145 Taxonomic Notes: Hypsocompe extrema of authors; (not Walker, 1855), n. comb., was previously placed in the genus Hypercompe in Schmidt (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). Generic placement follows the treatment of permaculata (Packard, 1872), its nearest neighbor by DNA barcode, and extrema (Walker, 1855) in Laguerre (2023). This name refers to an undescribed species known from southeastern Arizona and the Davis Mountains, Texas in Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010). "True" extrema does not occur north of Mexico.
