Distribution: Shasta Valley north of Mt. Shasta to the central Sierra Nevada at middle elevation (Powell & Opler 2009). Similar Species: Vaxi auratellus (Clemens, 1860) is not found in California. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: nr. auratellus Clemens 1860 () Taxonomic Notes: Vaxi nr. auratellus (Clemens, 1860) is a an undescribed species "in the opinion of the late A. B. Kolts" (Powell & Opler, 2009).
