Synonymy: borealis of authors; not Packard, 1867 (Pyrausta) facetalis (Berg, 1875) (Botis) subsequalis (Guenée, 1854) (Herbula) - MONA 1983: 5060 cespitalis of authors; (not [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) (Pyralis) misid. insequalis (Guenée, 1854) (Herbula) ssp. a. subsequalis (Guenée, 1854) (Herbula) - MONA 1983: 5060  efficitalis (Walker, [1866]) (Herbula)  graminalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1871) (Botys)  madetesalis (Walker, 1859) (Isopteryx)  matronalis (Grote, 1875) (Botis)  repletalis (Walker, [1866]) (Herbula) ssp. b. plagalis Haimbach, 1908 (Pyrausta) ssp. c. petaluma Munroe, 1976 (Pyrausta) Taxonomic Notes: Pyrausta subsequalis (Guenée, 1854) includes as a subspecies 5060.2 Pyrausta plagalis and includes as a synonym 5076.1 Pyrausta cespitalis of authors; (not Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775). Pyrausta insequalis (Guenée, 1854) is listed as a senior synonym by Munroe (1995). Brian Scholtens (pers. comm., 1/12/17) advises that subsequalis has priority.
