Taxonomic Notes: Acleris lipsiana of authors, not ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), previously treated in part as a synonym of 3551 Acleris inana (Robinson, 1869) in Pohl et al. (2010) and Pohl et al. (2018), is referable to 3563 Acleris capizziana Obraztsov, 1963 as indicated by DNA barcode in Gilligan et al. (2020), Insects, 11(9), 594: 1-59.

A paratype of capizziana and specimens identified as lipsiana from both North America and Europe share similar DNA barcodes with the small differences separating the Nearctic and Palearctic populations into two clusters. A BOLD specimen from Alberta more closely resembles lipsiana and barcodes slightly closer to Europen specimens. A specimen from Quebec (no photo) barcodes even closer to lipsiana. Dissected specimens from the same locality are likewise more similar lipsiana with female genitalia also a better match. Those specimens may represent an undescribed species or possibly a subspecies of lipsiana.
