Taxonomic Notes: |
Ancylis comptana; (Frölich, 1828) was listed using placeholder name "A. comptana of authors; (not Frölich, 1828" in Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). "True" comptana was treated as extralimital to North America in (Gilligan et al. 2020). DNA data in BOLD clearly distinguishes the NA specimens identified as A. comptana as a separate taxon from those in Europe. A. conflexana is the senior available name for Nearctic specimens and it's usage is putative; future study may determine if there is more than one species represented by the many NA synonyms for this taxon (Michael Sabourin, pers. comm., 2023). With valid NA synonyms available, Pohl & Nanz (2025) found it appropriate to retain the name A. comptana pending confirmation of the status of those NA synonyms. |
