Synonymy: comptana of authors not Frölich 1828 (Tortrix) - MONA 1983: 3374 amblygona Zeller 1876 (Phoxopteris); Type locality: Washington cometana Walsingham 1879 (Phoxopteryx); Type locality: Mendocino Co., CA conflexana Walker 1863 (Grapholita); Type locality: Nova Scotia floridana Zeller 1876 (Phoxopteris); Type locality: Ohio fragariae Walsh & Riley 1869 (Anchylopera); Type locality: Illinois lamiana Clemens 1864 (Anchylopera); Type locality: Brunswick, ME pulchellana Clemens 1864 (Anchylopera); Type locality: Virginia Taxonomic Notes: Ancylis comptana of authors; (not Frölich, 1828) is a placeholder name in Gilligan & Brown (in Pohl & Nanz (eds.) 2023). "True" comptana is treated as extralimital to North America in (Gilligan et al. 2020). DNA data in BOLD clearly distinguishes the NA specimens identified as A. comptana as a separate taxon from those in Europe. A. conflexana is the senior available name for Nearctic specimens and it's usage is putative. Future study may determine if there is more than one species represented by the many NA synonyms for this taxon. (Michael Sabourin, pers. comm., 2023)
